Thursday Thirteen #6

Thirteen Things that Stink about Having a Sick Child

1. Worrying that although he always has high fevers, that this 104.7 degree fever is different than the others.

2. Doctor telling you to just wait it out.

3. The constant whining.

4. Forgetting when you gave him medicine last.

5. Being totally homebound.

6. Missing your normal, cute, happy child.

7. Not being able to take him to nursery.

8. Wasting food because he won't eat anything.

9. Snot!

10. Puke!

11. Diarrhea!

12. Waking up every 20-30 minutes.

13. "Negotiating" with your spouse about whose turn it is to get up.

  2. Well, it is a good list...but I'm sorry that he's not feeling well.

I also read your previous post about "real" mommy. Well, that struck a chord with me.

My "birth mommy" lives 2 hours away from me.

    She refuses to see me.

She did not give me up for adoption. Instead of that level of honesty, she dropped four of us off at grandma's for weeks and months at a time until we were such a strain on grandma's fixed income that she had to call my dad and tell him to come get us, or watch us become wards of the state.

However, to call her my "real mommy" is an insult to my stepmom. From when I was 7 till I went to college, the "stepmother" helped provide for me, discipline me, and everything else that a mother should be. All for a snot-nosed, smart-aleck little brat who showed no gratitude whatsoever.

Well, I know who my "real mommy" is now. And I have nothing but gratitude for the woman who raised me, my three siblings, and her own son while she was a grieving widow. I wish I had clearer vision as a child.

But don't worry. Your son will know who his "real mommy" is. It's you.

Happy TT...and sorry this was so long. God bless.

  4. Thanks for your comments, Bubba. That's a tough situation for a young kid to have to deal with. I'm so glad you had a mom that came through for you.

I'm also glad that my son's birthmom chose to place him with us. I have NOTHING BUT LOVE for her--I just think sometimes other people's comments can be hurtful.

I can totally relate! My son had a fever spike once in the backseat of my car, ended up with him in a seizure. I was in the middle of no where, had to pull over to a strangers house for help and to call 911. A half hour after 911 got there we were in the ER and his temp at that time was 105.8, who knows how high it was when it happened.

I also find it very helpful to keep a notepad in the kitchen by the medicines, I write down the day and time I give medicine and how much and what medicine I gave them. A great way for me to not forget and helps me stay on track. Best wishes, I totally sympathize with this TT!

  16. Sorry your little one is ill. I remember though that I was actually more fond than I should have been for that last day- when they felt better, but were still a bit worn out and all they wanted to do was cuddle.
