Thursday Thirteen #4

Thirteen Things I Want to Start Doing Again

1. Play volleyball on a city league team. I used to play all the time in high school and college. What stops me from doing this is finding a team to play on. I should just ask the city if there's a team that needs another player.

2. Read my Scriptures Regularly. My scripture reading has gone way downhill since Ty was born, and I really don't have a good excuse. I could be reading instead of writing right now.

3. Write up Family Stories. I started this project, but haven't put much effort into it lately.

4. Sing in a Good Choir. Again, here's one I did a lot of in high school and college, but miss as regular adult citizen. There've got to be community-type choirs out there, right?

5. Go back to School for a Degree in Social Work. My passion is adoption and I would love to be a part-time adoption/birth parent worker.

6. Invite people we don't know that well for Dinner. We used to do this all the time when we lived in Provo.

7. Workout Regularly. Tyler screams bloody murder every time I take him to the Gold's Gym daycare. But I could go at night when Brad gets home. Morning before Brad goes to work is NOT an option.

8. Play more games. I love card games and board games. We should play more.

9. Write in my Journal more often. Although this one is kind of done if I print out my blog entries.

10. Keep in better contact with old friends. Because they're such old, dear friends, sometimes I don't work as hard at keeping in touch with them because I know they'll always be there. Shame on me.

11. Paint with Watercolors. I used to love doing this, but living in apartments has halted it. I need a room where I can just keep all my creative stuff out if I want to.

12. Travel more. Between me quitting my job (less money) and Brad getting newly hired (less time-off), and having a baby, we really haven't travelled like we used to. Hopefully that will change. We've opened a vacation savings account and have plans for a Florida vacation in 2007.

13. Go to Enrichment Night. This is a night at my church where the ladies get together to do various activities. It really is a great way to get to know people, but my social anxiety pops up and I usually end up not going.

  2. I am missing board games too. We moved away from my five siblings and in-law siblings and now have no one to play with. I have a closet full of games that I need to make some friends to play with.

    Happy TT.

  9. I used to love playing volleyball. I agree with the bible reading. I've really let it slide and I have a harder time because of it. I used to sing in my church choir but now that I have 4 kids, I don't have someone to babysite during practice! My husband is the drummer for it though.

I'm with ya on #10 and think #3 is a totally cool idea. I started a Family Tree scrapbook and didn't get very far...but I think I should start writing down some stories about my son while he's growing up so that he'll have something to help him remember being little.

Thanks for the idea ~ great list!

    I'm up! Happy Thursday

You're right...sleeping in is wonderful! But Baby Boy gets me up around 8:30 or 9:00 ~ not too bad. :)

Maybe next week I'll do 13 things I don't miss about teaching...like the parents, the administration, the discipline issues, the he said/she saids, bringing the sniffles and colds home. Hmm...maybe that's what I'll do. :)

  24. It's always good to have "adult" time and "me" time, especially if you're home with the kids all day.

Good luck getting back in your groove!

    Happy T13

  30. Great list! I agree about the keeping up with old friends better. You are totally right - you just assume that they are always going to be there. I need to make a better effort, too.

    Have a great Thursday! :)

  31. We bought our house with the idea that we would be inviting people over. We've only had a handful in the three months since we moved in.

The journal thing is a must as well. I have been copying my posts to Word and saving them.

  33. Oh, I so miss playing volleyball. Sounds like a good plan. I know that here we do have community Volleyball and choirs... but that doesn't help you much there ;) I just think that you might have to start looking!!

    Happy TT!!

  35. Great list...be encouraged that you are doing something more important than anything else...you are raising a child. I've got 3 myself, and I too would love to do some other things that being a mom just doesn't allow right now. That's more than ok!

I would encourage you to get into the Bible like you want to though...it helps you be at peace with missing out on some of that other stuff. You'll get to do it someday, and that someday will come faster than you think. :o)

    God Bless!
