Quiz

What could cause a child to quake with fear, retreat to the floor of the car, and not stop crying until we were far away?

Linda the Llama? Nope, she's too gentle.

Willy the Wildebeest? Too bored with humans.

The pretty Oryx? No way! He let you pet him.

The other type of Oryx with the straight horns? Nope, wouldn't even come close.

The big bison? Too sleepy!

It's Ozzy. Ozzy the Ostrich! Helped himself to our car, and nipped Tyler's finger. He looks sweet here, but he's a maniac!

  3. Oh, poor guy. Ostriches really will try to eat anything. At least that's what it says in my kids' curious George book;)

  4. Just so you know, Ty is fine, and he was back to enjoying all the animals as soon as we left the ostrich. I don't think he'll carry any scars--physical or emotional! :)

  5. I would have never guessed it was the ostrich. But I can imagine it would be quite traumatic having a scary looking bird invade your car and nip at your finger. Glad to hear he is recovered.

  8. I am so with Tyler here. When I was in high school we ventured down to Wild Life Safari where Ozzy the Ostrich's grandfather TRIED to nip MY finger, but I frantically jumped from the passenger seat of the car onto my mom's lap in the driver's seat screaming hysterically. I sooooo feel for your son. I do. I really really do. I hope he's not scarred for life like me. ;)

  9. Those things are scary!! Their freakishly long necks add to their ability to reach way in the car, not cool.

  11. Oh TJ, I didn't mean to make you feel bad! We had a really good time and are so thankful for the tickets! Just today, Ty asked to look at the pictures again, and he laughed about "that crazy bird that bit" him. He really did enjoy himself most of the time.

  12. I would have retreated to the floor of the car and cried too! Ozzy has an evil look in his eye. Bad, bad birdie!

  13. This cracks me up because we had the same experience just today at Wildlife Safari! We took the boys there for their birthday and there was a seriously aggressive ostrich with a bone to pick with every car that tried to pass by him. We had to roll up our windows as he pecked at them! The boys who started up in my lap both high-tailed it to the back of the car in fear! Pete and I were cracking up! We took video footage...maybe I should post it if I ever decide to blog again.
