It's preschool enrollment time, and I have had the hardest time finding an affordable preschool for Tyler! All the ones I found had huge enrollment fees, supply fees, and tuition costs in the $200/mo range, all for a 2 day/wk, 9-12 time block!
I even got on the phone to call places that didn't have websites (big step for me, as I hate calling people on the phone!) but the prices were still high! The cheapest place I could find was $140/mo, which is still more than I want to pay!
Then I found a site called Mamasource, where you sign up for free and just have an opportunity to ask things of local moms. I asked them about inexpensive preschools on my side of town, and by the end of the day I had eight responses giving me suggestions. One of them turned out to be a really good school for only 80/mo, so I went and checked it out today, and it seems really great.
Anyway, just thought I'd pass that site along. I think they have it in all areas. It's very helpful, especially being new in town!

Have you also tried your local high schools to see if they offer preschool programs? We've been using our high school for a couple years and we totally love every bit of it--it's 2.5 hours twice a week during the entire school year (and the 'teachers' have been fantastic) and it was less than $400 for the whole year.

ReplyDeleteI love Mamasource! ivillage.com also has some good resources. They have all sorts of bulletin board type links/groups. I sometimes use the playgroup bulletin board/ chat room (not sure what you call it) for all the moms that had babies the same month as Emma. It's a fun way to relate to moms going through the same thing as you! Mamasource is probably better for finding local resources though. I'm glad you were able to use it to find a Preschool. What a great idea!

Glad you found somewhere. Is preschool now a requirement by the government? I hate that children are being taken from the home so early and have less influence from the parents. Anyway, I have no children. What do I know?
ReplyDeleteThe local highschool idea is a great one. Both Rylie and Sophia did that and we liked it alot. I love doing the co-op pre school where you switch with other mom's. Right now Eli is in a group with 5 other kids. We switch off teaching every two weeks, which means that I teach on Tue. and Thurs. for two weeks then don't teach again for another three months. We use an on-line program that you order and they ship boxes monthly called Mother Goose Time. It is wonderful and cost me 88.00 for the year! All of us Mom's split the cost. Another program we have used is also online and called Fun Steps. It was good too, but I like Mother Goose Time better. It's a great option:0) Good luck Salamander!
