If you've read my blog for awhile, you know I have a shameful little secret: I like storms. But I don't like to be hit by them. I just like to be close enough to be involved in all the hullabaloo that surrounds them. That's why San Antonio is a great place for me: too far inland to really get hit, but close enough to feel the effects.
Take Hurricane Dolly, for instance: we were scheduled for our bi-monthly trip to Corpus Christi (it's on the coast) on Wednesday/Thursday. I think it was around Sunday that I first saw that a hurricane was forming in the Gulf and had a possible landfall on the Texas coast around Wednesday. See how that's kind of exciting? Ooooooh...possible danger! Should we stay or go? We waited until Tuesday night to make the decision. At this point we knew the eye of the storm was further south, and that it was due to hit land in the early afternoon. So Brad changed some of his Wednesday appointments and drove down in the evening. I decided not to go this time--I did not want to get stuck in a car for hours with a 3 yr old in case there were evacuations!
Everything turned out fine--turns out the heaviest rain Brad had to drive through was in San Antonio! We had little bursts of heavy rain and even a couple tornados (none in our side of town)!
Anyway, I had fun watching the news and the Weather Channel, seeing places familiar to me on the TV, and watching how everyone was preparing for the worst.
I wonder what this Hurricane season will bring next?

Hurricanes scare me. I'd rather have an earthquake. I guess I've seen to many storm movies and not enough earthquake ones. I'm glad all is well there!
ReplyDeleteI talked to Brad during the rain he was about as excited as you were. He was pretty bored without you guys down there though.
ReplyDeleteI miss you guys. I wish you were coming up this week... I guess I will see you soon though.
Love you.
I loved watching the wildfires last year about 6 miles from our house burining the mountainside. It was quite mesmerizing (spelling). Rebecca and I wouls sit out on our porch at night and watch it glow and see when the fire got a burst of energy and shoot up in the air. Just like you said, "Ooooooh...possible danger!'
ReplyDeleteOoohhhhh! I know exactly what you mean! We spent 2-1/2 years in Georgia (after living in Oregon all my life except for college time at Ricks & BYU), and I loved the storms, and watching the storms on the Weather Channel, etc., etc. I suppose I can say I love them, because we never experienced danger from them. Now that we are back in Oregon, I so miss the thunderstorms. Glad you had some storm excitement for a while, and that you were kept safe.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds scary and exciting all at the same time;0) When I lived in colorado we got bombarded by some crazy storms....golf aball sized hail, tornadoes that looked to be right in our back yard, but luckily never sucked us up. Luckily. I love a good thunder and lightening storm, except my cousins hubby did get struck by lighteneing a few years ago while he was at a parking lot sale at some sports store. Freaky huh?
ReplyDeleteSorry, my spelling bites at the moment:0)

ReplyDeleteAhhh ...storms scare me...We had lightning strike outside our house last week and I about wet my pants. That is cool that you enjoy the trills nature brings! I am glad you got to be close enough to enjoy the excitement of Dolly but not be in her way!
ReplyDeleteI wish we would have storms in Vegas. I get soooo excited when it rains here. I turn all the lights out in the apartment and open the door to the porch and just listen to the rain (and sometimes thunder). :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your comments. They are much appreciated.
I'm all for excitement...but Hurricanes are a little too exciting for me. I'm glad you can appreciate them!
ReplyDeleteI love to watch storms and tornadoes- on National Geographic! I would be a mess if I thought any of that stuff would even be near me or my family! Your a lot more brave than I am ! I love the picture in your blog title! It is so stinking cute! What a doll you have there!
